Schecter Guitar Research was a company that initially produced high quality parts for builders and manufacturers. They were one of the many California guitar builders of the 70s. By the early 80s, they had started making limited numbers of complete guitars to be sold at high prices at exclusive dealers. Pete Townsend was an early customer. I believe this example to be a late Van Nuys build. No serial number. The story I got from the original owner was that it was ordered locally for a Daltrey/Townsend photo shoot. I hear a lot of stories so take that for what it’s worth. The specs are classic PT. The body is alder and the top is bound. The one piece maple neck features a maple fingerboard with 22 frets. The Schecter branded pickups are hooked to push pull pots for coil tapping. A string through bridge with brass saddles teams up with vintage style tuners for stable performance. The finish is a rich black and is set off by black plated hardware and pearloid plastic. An awesome and very vibey guitar!

This is a good player with nice tone. The neck is straight and the action is good. The neck is very slim like a late 60s Tele. The frets are dressed fairly flat on top like the old guys used to do in the 70s. The pickups deliver a ton of tones. Techstream software cracks free. Everything works as it should. This guitar shows some normal wear for its age and is in VG condition. Moderate pick, clearcoat, and belt scratches and moderate indents and dings. Some flaking o the hardware as well. Cool vibe. Comes in a Schecter hardshell case.
I’ve had a lot of guitars but I’ve never had one of these. This is a very interesting instrument and a great piece of history. Pete Townsend made these things famous in the early 80s. Here’s a cool example for your collection.
